 Music Ministries at Advent

At Advent we are blessed with a multitude of  opportunities for musicians to share their time and talents in our worship life.  We offer ensembles for a variety of ages, talents and skill levels.  Our task is to help the worshipping congregation praise God and proclaim God’s Word through liturgy, hymn and song, anthem and accompaniment.  Please consider these possibilities for serving in this most fulfilling fellowship, (church musicians are a FUN bunch!) and prayerfully answer God’s call to share your time and talents with us.

 Service Choirs

Our traditional  worship services (8:00, 9:30)  have an ensemble that provides vocal leadership for the singing of hymns, psalms, liturgy and anthems.  These choirs rehearse weekly at regular times as follows:

8:00    GLORIA             rehearses on Wednesdays at  7:00 pm in the Sanctuary  directed by Noralyn Carpenter

9:30    Reformation        rehearses on Sundays at  10:45 am in the Music Room of the Adventure Center      directed by Noralyn Carpenter

11:00  Blended Worship is led by

The service choirs, plus several festival-only singers combine to present music for the major festival services (Palm Sunday, Easter, Christmas Eve, etc.).  Most rehearsals are held in coordination with the regular service choir rehearsal times – Wednesday evenings or Sundays at 10:45 am – with occasional Saturday rehearsals.

  Covenant Choir

This choir – also comprised of service choir singers as well as special occasion singers – commits to an extra rehearsal schedule to prepare significant choral works (example: Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Requiem by John Rutter). The rehearsal schedule is announced in advance, with most meetings occurring on Wednesday evening or Saturday or Sunday mornings.

The Occasional Orchestra

Organized in 2005, this group plays on festival days and other special occasions.  Composed of instrumentalists of every ability level, they accompany congregational hymns and liturgy and look forward to playing a solo number in their future.  On a good day, we have more than twenty musicians!  Strings, woodwinds, percussionists (we have timpanie), brass... all are welcome.  Rehearsals are scheduled as needed before special events.
